The Walled Garden Plant Centre - open March until the end of October

As well as the large Camellia greenhouse, the wall garden is where we display and sell our nursery plants. Over 90% of which are propagated and grown from the plants growing in the gardens. A wide range of plants are for sale throughout the year, including alpines. Many unusual and new plants are raised from seed and cuttings taken from those growing on our raised beds and scree area. Camellias and Magnolias are popular in spring and we are grafting many Magnolias now, ones which cannot be propagated by cuttings, such as Vulcan, Marwood Spring, Milky Way Atlas and Iolanthe, as well as plants of the yellow flowered forms. A wide selection of shrubs and several interesting trees are also propagated. Trees with interesting bark feature prominently in the gardens, in particular Eucalyptus and the Silver Birches. Many of these birches are propagated by grafting, which makes an exact copy of the parent plant, unlike seed raised forms.

A wide range of herbaceous plants including many rare and unusual ones which aren't available in garden centres can be found. Over 30 cultivars of Astilbe, many Heucheras, Kniphofias, Primulas, Hostas, Hemerocallis and ornamental grasses are well represented.
